Co-development of Linguistic and Behavioural Skills: Compositional Semantics and Behaviour Generalisation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Population of simulated agents controlled by dynamical neural networks are trained by artificial evolution to access linguistic instructions and to execute them by indicating, touching or moving specific target objects. During training the agent experiences only a subset of all object/action pairs. During post-evaluation, some of the successful agents proved to be able to access and execute also linguistic instructions not experienced during training. This is owe to the development of a semantic space, grounded on the sensory motor capability of the agent and organised in a systematised way in order to facilitate linguistic compositionality and behavioural generalisation.

متن کاملThe Evolution of Behavioural and Linguistic Skills to Execute and Generate Two-word Instructions in Agents Controlled by Dynamical Neural Networks
This paper illustrates an agent-based simulation model focused on the acquisition of linguistic skills. Populations of simulated agents controlled by dynamical neural networks are trained by artificial evolution to perfom two tasks: the behaviour-production task which consists in accessing and executing linguistic instructions; and the behaviourrecognition task which consists in linguistically ...
متن کاملDistributive Laws for Monotone Specifications
Turi and Plotkin introduced an elegant approach to structural operational semantics based on universal coalgebra, parametric in the type of syntax and the type of behaviour. Their framework includes abstract GSOS, a categorical generalisation of the classical GSOS rule format, as well as its categorical dual, coGSOS. Both formats are well behaved, in the sense that each specification has a uniq...
متن کاملDynamic Categorization of Semantics of Fashion Language: A Memetic Approach
Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...
متن کاملLexical Semantics and Selection of TAM in Bantu Languages: A Case of Semantic Classification of Kiswahili Verbs
The existing literature on Bantu verbal semantics demonstrated that inherent semantic content of verbs pairs directly with the selection of tense, aspect and modality formatives in Bantu languages like Chasu, Lucazi, Lusamia, and Shiyeyi. Thus, the gist of this paper is the articulation of semantic classification of verbs in Kiswahili based on the selection of TAM types. This is because the sem...
